John Mooney appointed Delhi Capitals' fielding coach for IPL 2026

Former Ireland all-rounder John Mooney has been appointed as the new fielding coach of Delhi Capitals ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. With the appointment, Mooney becomes the first Irish representative to join the coaching staff of an IPL franchise. Mooney will take over from Gnaneswara Rao and Anton Roux, who were part of the Capitals’ support staff last season.
He will join the coaching setup led by head coach Hemang Badani. The support staff also features former India pacer Munaf Patel as bowling coach, ex-England batter Ian Bell as assistant coach, and Venugopal Rao as director of cricket. Mooney carries huge experience, having served as the fielding coach of Afghanistan between 2018 and 2019.
In 2019, he also worked with West Indies team. In his career, he represented Ireland in 64 ODIs and 27 T20Is between 2006 and 2015. Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, will begin their IPL 2026 campaign by taking on Lucknow Super Giants on April 1.
