Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have announced the signing of left-arm seamer Saurabh Dubey as a replacement for the injured Akash Deep. The development was confirmed by KKR CEO Venky Mysore during an intra-squad practice game in Kolkata. Dubey remains uncapped in the IPL and has had limited exposure at the senior level, having featured in only a handful of professional matches.

His last appearance in competitive cricket was back in October 2023, when he represented Vidarbha cricket team in a T20 fixture. Notably, in 2022, he was picked up by Sunrisers Hyderabad, but his campaign was cut short by injury before he could make an impact.

"Head coach Abhishek Nayar has done a great job lining up the potential options and bringing them over so that the coaches can see, be part of our training and practice games. Definitely the one who has caught everyone's eyes is Saurabh Dubey, Vidarbha's left-arm seamer, who is tall,” Mysore was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

"The coaches were excited, called up and said, 'This is who we would like to take as Akash Deep's replacement,’” he added.

KKR are set to begin their IPL 2026 campaign on Sunday against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium. Last year, they didn't have a fruitful campaign, finishing eighth in the standings with 12 points and a net run rate of -0.305.
