Rinku Singh named vice-captain of KKR ahead of IPL 2026

Rinku Singh has been appointed as the vice-captain of Kolkata Knight Riders for IPL 2026. KKR confirmed the decision during their pre-season event “Knights Unplugged", with franchise CEO Venky Mysore unveiling Rinku Singh as deputy to captain Ajinkya Rahane. The move is crucial as the three-time champions look to strengthen themselves following a mixed IPL 2025 campaign.
"God’s plan has a new chapter," KKR stated on X.
Since joining KKR in 2018, Rinku Singh has risen through the ranks to become a dependable middle-order batter. He has played 59 matches for the franchise, scoring 1099 runs at a strike rate of 145.17. One of the defining moments of his career came in IPL 2023, when he famously smashed five consecutive sixes in the final over to seal a victory for KKR. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will kick off their IPL 2026 campaign on March 29 against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
KKR head coach Abhishek Nayar also lauded Rinku Singh.
"Over the years, we've seen Rinku Singh evolve not only as a cricketer but also as a leader. For the past couple of years, while his performances have spoken for themselves, I think off the field without saying a lot, he is someone that the team looks forward to," Nayar said during the event.
"We wanted to, with the big power-hitter [Russell] gone, we wanted a little more responsibility for Rinku to shoulder and I feel it's the perfect time after being a World Cup champion to come in and take the responsibility and help Ajinkya Rahane take the reins over," he said
