Rohit, Rickelton's carnage fires MI to victory over KKR

Mumbai Indians have launched their IPL 2026 campaign in dominant fashion, claiming a commanding six-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. In a high-scoring encounter, batting maestro Rohit Sharma’s class and Ryan Rickelton’s brilliance guided Mumbai Indians to a memorable win. Chasing a challenging target of 221, Mumbai Indians openers approached the innings in an aggressive fashion, with Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton unleashing a barrage of attacking shots.
Rohit Sharma, leading from the front, set the tone early with his trademark authority. His 78 off 38 balls saw him slam six fours and as many sixes. Ryan Rickelton supported him perfectly, playing a sensational knock of 81. Rickelton dismantled KKR bowlers, plundering eight sixes in his imperious knock. Later, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma scored 18* and 20, respectively, as Mumbai Indians crossed the finish line in 19.2 overs.
Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders posted an imposing total of 220/4 after being asked to bat. Captain Ajinkya Rahane led from the front with a well-crafted 67 off 40 balls.
However, the standout performer for KKR was Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who announced his arrival in style. The young batter scored a rapid 51 off 29 balls, laced with six fours and two sixes. For MI, Shardul Thakur was the most successful bowler, claiming three wickets for 39 runs.
