Ben Stokes sidelined until May following broken cheekbone

England Test captain Ben Stokes has been ruled out of competitive cricket until at least May after sustaining a serious facial injury that resulted in a broken cheekbone. Stokes suffered the injury during a training session in February while working in the nets with his county side Durham. A ball struck him in the face, causing massive damage that required immediate medical attention and subsequent surgery. Stokes is now likely to be sidelined for the first month of the county season with Durham.
Stokes’ absence is a significant blow for Durham as he was set to play for them for their season opener against Kent next week. However, the side's head coach, Ryan Campbell, said that Stokes was unlikely to be in action before their fifth game, against Worcestershire starting on May 8.
"[The incident] could have been horrific. So, so much worse than what you think. A couple of centimetres a different way it hits him in the eye and it could have been different," Campbell said at Durham's pre-season media day.
The injury comes after a challenging Ashes campaign earlier in the year, where England suffered a devastating 4-1 defeat against Australia
