IPL 2026: Shreyas Iyer fined for Code of Conduct breach

Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has once again landed in disciplinary trouble in the ongoing Indian Premier League season after being fined for maintaining a slow over-rate for the second consecutive match. Iyer had already faced penalties after his side failed to complete their overs on time in a previous match against Gujarat Titans.
Repeating the same offence against Chennai has now led to stricter action from the league authorities. He was slapped with a fine of INR 24 lakh, while the rest of the playing XI, along with the impact player, were fined either INR 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever was lower.
"Punjab Kings Captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No.7 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai," the IPL said in a statement.
"As this was his team’s second offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Iyer was fined INR 24 lakhs. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, will be fined either INR six lakhs or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,"
Talking about the match, Punjab Kings secured a dominant five-wicket win to make it two in a row. Captain Shreyas Iyer was dominant in Punjab's chase, slamming a match-winning half-century. Meanwhile, Cooper Connolly, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh blasted 36, 39 and 43, respectively.
