Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz under investigation for recreational drug use

Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz, according to ESPNcricinfo, has found himself under investigation following reports of a positive test for recreational drug use during the T20 World Cup 2026, which was jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka earlier this year.
The test result, as per the report, dates back to the tournament period, where Nawaz was part of Pakistan’s squad captained by Salman Agha. He played all games, delivering a modest performance. He contributed 15 runs with the bat while picking up seven wickets across seven games. However, the team’s campaign ended in disappointment after being eliminated during the Super Eight stage. Overall, Nawaz has featured for Pakistan in 98 T20Is, 44 ODIs, and six Tests. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken serious note of the situation and is in the process of initiating a formal investigation.
The biggest setback for Nawaz is the collapse of his highly anticipated stint with Surrey County Cricket Club. He had reportedly secured a deal to participate in the T20 Blast following his commitments in the Pakistan Super League 2026 and had even received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the PCB to proceed. However, the positive test result has reportedly led to the termination of that deal. Nawaz is currently participating in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL). Having played eight games in the tournament, he has taken six wickets.
