England drop Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope for 1st Test against New Zealand

England have announced a new-look squad for the first Test against New Zealand, dropping Ollie Pope and Zak Crawley. Durham batter Emilio Gay, Hampshire pacer Sonny Baker and Somerset keeper-bat James Rew have been named in the Test squad for the first time. The trio has impressed heavily in county cricket. Durham opener Emilio Gay has earned his maiden call-up after a prolific County Championship season, while Somerset wicketkeeper-batter James Rew and Hampshire fast bowler Sonny Baker have also been rewarded for strong domestic performances.
Ollie Robinson makes his comeback to the side following a two-year absence. The shake-up follows England's devastating 4-1 Ashes defeat to Australia. England's premier pacer Jofra Archer is unavailable due to Indian Premier League (IPL) commitments.
Notably, Ben Duckett has retained his place despite enduring alarming form at the Ashes. Shoaib Bashir, who was overlooked for the Ashes, has found a place in the 15-member squad. England captain Ben Stokes will lead the team as he returns to full fitness following his recovery from a cheekbone injury. The squad also includes experienced stars such as Joe Root and Harry Brook. The first Test of the three-match series will begin on June 4 at Lord's.
England squad: Ben Stokes (c), Rehan Ahmed, Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker, Shoaib Bashir, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Ben Duckett, Matthew Fisher, Emilio Gay, James Rew, Ollie Robinson, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Josh Tongue
