Bangladesh handed big blow ahead of 2nd Test against Pakistan

Bangladesh have reportedly been dealt a setback ahead of the second Test against Pakistan, with opener Shadman Islam ruled out due to a chest injury. He sustained the injury during the opening Test in Mirpur and will miss the second Test beginning on Saturday in Sylhet.
To replace him, Bangladesh selectors have called up Zakir Hasan, who returns to the side after an impressive domestic season. Shadman suffered the injury on the fifth and final day of the first Test while taking a catch to dismiss Pakistan batter Salman Ali Agha. Soon after taking the catch, he collapsed on the field at the Shere Bangla National Stadium and had to be escorted off the ground immediately. He did not return for the remainder of the match.
Despite the injury scare, Bangladesh completed a memorable 104-run victory over Pakistan, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series. As for Zakir, he has played 13 Test matches for Bangladesh. His tally of runs includes one century and four half-centuries. His last appearance in Test cricket came during Bangladesh’s tour of the West Indies in November 2024.
