KKR skittle MI to keep playoff dreams alive

Kolkata Knight Riders kept themselves in the hunt for a playoff spot with a convincing four-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens on Wednesday. KKR comfortably chased down 148 in 18.5 overs to keep their campaign alive. The chase was anchored superbly by Manish Pandey, who remained composed throughout his knock of 45 off 33 balls. Rovman Powell led the charge from the other end with a powerful 40. After their departure, Rinku Singh and Anukul Roy scored 9* and 4*, helping Kolkata cruise past the target in 18.5 overs.
Earlier, KKR’s bowlers made excellent use of the slow surface after their captain Ajinkya Rahane decided to bowl first under cloudy skies. The Eden Gardens pitch offered assistance to seamers and slower deliveries, and KKR’s attack exploited those conditions superbly. Mumbai Indians could not settle as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Cameron Green impressed with the ball, claiming two wickets.
Left-arm pacer Saurabh Dubey also struck twice, troubling MI’s top order. Their efforts reduced Mumbai to 41/4 during the powerplay, putting the visitors under immediate pressure. For MI, Hardik Pandya played a fighting knock of 26, while Corbin Bosch added valuable runs late in the innings with an unbeaten 32 to help MI finish on 147/8 in 20 overs.
