England sealed a statement 115-run victory over New Zealand in the opening Test of the Crowe-Thorpe Trophy at Lord’s on Sunday, taking a 1-0 lead in the series. The match was completely dominated by bowlers on a challenging surface that provided huge assistance throughout, resulting in 16 wickets tumbling on the opening day alone. England, after being put in to bat, recovered from an early collapse to finally finish on the winning side.

New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson made a thumping return to Test cricket. The towering fast bowler dismantled England’s batting lineup with figures of 5/62, mastering the conditions brilliantly. However, Harry Brook stood firm with a counter-attacking 56, giving the only meaningful resistance as England were dismissed for 140. However, England responded strongly with the ball. Making his first Test appearance in two years, Ollie Robinson delivered a devastating spell that turned the match on its head. The seamer came out with a remarkable triple-wicket maiden, removing Devon Conway, Kane Williamson and Rachin Ravindra in a stunning burst that left New Zealand reeling.

The Black Caps failed to recover from Robinson’s early strikes and were bowled out for 113. Glenn Phillips fought hard with 34, and Jamieson contributed an unbeaten 38, helping New Zealand narrow the deficit. England's second innings was crucial in shaping the outcome of the match, with Emilio Gay leading the way with a composed 57. Jamie Smith chipped in with 39 runs. Although New Zealand’s bowlers continued to find success and dismissed England for 226. With the scoring from Emilio Gay and Jamie Smith, England set a challenging target of 254.
