The International Cricket Council (ICC) has provisionally confirmed the dates for next year's ODI World Cup, scheduled to be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, the blockbuster tournament will be played between October 4 and November 21. The dates were confirmed during the ICC board meeting in Ahmedabad in May. However, the final details are expected to be chalked out at the governing body's Annual General Meeting in Edinburgh next month.

South Africa are set to host the greater part of the tournament, with 41 of the tournament's 54 matches set to be held across eight venues in the country. Zimbabwe are set to host between eight and 10 games, while Namibia will stage three. Earlier Zimbabwe originally had two venues, but now they will have three, with Victoria Falls joining Harare Sports Club and Queens in Bulawayo.

The addition has been prompted following the development that the Fale Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium will be completed later this year and will likely host domestic cricket before an official inauguration next year in May. Meanwhile, the tournament will mark its return to a 14-team format, unlike the previous two editions, in which it was played between 10 teams.

The competing nations will be divided into two groups of seven, with the top three from each group advancing to the Super Six stage. South Africa and Zimbabwe have automatically qualified for the tournament courtesy being the full members of the ICC, and Namibia are part of the qualification process.
