India women crush England in historic Test

India knocked off a breathtaking performance, clinching a commanding 270-run victory over England in a historic women's Test at Lord's on Monday. The match, which was the first-ever women's Test played at Lord's, saw India outshine England in all departments. Asked to bat, India made a splendid recovery from an early setback to post a good first-innings total of 285, with opener Smriti Mandhana anchoring the innings with a powerful knock of 83.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur (58) and all-rounder Deepti Sharma (57) also strengthened India's total with half-centuries. Meanwhile, England struggled with the bat as they were bowled out for 170 after India's bowlers applied relentless pressure. The standout performer was 22-year-old medium pacer Kranti Gaud, who delivered a magnificent spell, claiming figures of 5-37. Her brilliant performance also earned her a place on the prestigious Lord's honours board, making her the first woman to achieve the milestone of a five-wicket haul in a Test innings.
England's batting lineup crumbled under continuous pressure. Having a big lead, India set England a target of 457 runs. They scored 341/7 in their second innings before declaring. England, in their chase, were folded for 186, handing India an emphatic win on the final day. Amy Jones (54) and Sophie Ecclestone (50) top-scored for England, but their efforts remained in vain.
