ENG vs IND, 2nd ODI: India aim to seal series as England fight for survival

Having shown their dominance in the opening match, India will look to continue their impressive run as they gear up to take on England in the second ODI at Sophia Gardens on Thursday. India delivered a commanding performance in the series opener, sealing a six-wicket win and taking a 1-0 advantage. Now, they are one victory away from clinching the three-match series. India had headed into the series on the back of disappointing results in Ireland and a difficult T20I campaign against England, but they came out strongly in ODIs.
In fact, the men in blue were excellent in all departments, keeping England under pressure from the start. England, however, tried to make their way back, but they were unable to sustain the pressure to challenge India. It's been tough for England in ODIs because they struggled to find consistency, and with the series of defeats, they have suffered 13 losses in 19 matches since the start of last year. For India, in the first game, their fast bowlers put out an impressive display with Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar making full use of the conditions to rip through England.
Jasprit Bumrah, making his return to ODI cricket for the first time since the 2023 World Cup final, shone bright, giving away only 31 runs from nine overs. Although he picked up only one wicket, he didn't allow England batters to get runs. With the bat, captain Shubman Gill showed his worth by plundering 80 runs before retiring out. Meanwhile, senior stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who endured rare failures, would hope to play pivotal roles. England, who are aware that another slip-up would cost them the series, would look for a complete performance to level the series. They would hope for Jos Buttler, Phil Salt and Harry Brook to step up and get back to scoring after getting out cheaply in the opening game.
