Gavan Twining named Melbourne Renegades’ head coach for WBBL|12
Melbourne Renegades have appointed Gavan Twining, who is also the assistant coach of the Australia women’s team, as the head coach of the club for the WBBL|12. Twining will join Melbourne Renegades after Australia’s upcoming assignments against Bangladesh and New Zealand. Following the WBBL, Twining will resume his international duties. At Melbourne Renegades, he will replace Simon Helmot, who stepped down earlier this year in April in order to explore opportunities in overseas leagues.
"Gavan is an outstanding addition to our WBBL programme, bringing World Cup winning experience to our group. There's already a very positive environment within the squad and we felt Gavan was the best person to continue building on that working with the experienced leaders we have in the squad,” Renegades general manager Max Abbott said in a release.
Meanwhile, Gavan expressed his excitement to be joining the club. Notably, Twining played a pivotal role in Australia’s victory at the Women’s T20 World Cup in England.
"The Renegades have a strong foundation and a talented squad, and I'm looking forward to helping the players take the next step and build on the success the club has had," Gavan said.
“Having been part of the Australian team's World Cup campaign, I'm excited to bring those experiences into the Renegades environment and help produce performances that our members and fans can be proud of."
