England remain dominant on opening day against Pakistan

England remained utterly dominant on the opening day of the first Test against Pakistan on Wednesday in Leeds. The hosts excelled in both batting and bowling departments to remain on top on day one, keeping Pakistan on the ropes. Pakistan, on the other hand, suffered a dramatic collapse as they were dismissed for 171 in their first innings, with only Abdullah Shafique top-scoring with 61. The day belonged largely to England’s pace attack.
Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue made superb use of the conditions, producing outstanding spells and repeatedly troubling Pakistan batters. Both claimed five wickets apiece. Wrapping up Pakistan’s innings, England openers Ben Duckett and Emilio Gay started off in an aggressive manner, attacking Pakistan bowlers from the outset.
Pakistan, however, found a way back into the match after Mohammad Abbas and Mohammad Ali dismissed Ben Duckett and Emilio Gay, respectively. As things stand, England are on 112/2, trailing by 59 runs. Currently, Jordan Cox and Joe Root are unbeaten on 23 and 37, respectively, as England look to apply more pressure on Pakistan heading into day 2.
