India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lanka pacer Asitha Fernando have been fined 25% of their match fees following a heated confrontation during the opening day of the second Test in Colombo on Sunday. According to the ICC, both players were found guilty of violating Article 2.12, which relates to “inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person” during an international match.

One demerit point has added to each player's disciplinary record. Meanwhile, the incident occurred after Fernando dismissed Jaiswal with the final delivery of the 17th over on the first morning. After his dismissal, Jaiswal started making his way towards the dressing room.

However, Jaiswal turned back and subsequently both players were involved in a confrontation. The exchange came following the comments made during the Sri Lankan team's celebratory huddle. Both players admitted the breaches and accepted the sanctions proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, quashing the need for a formal hearing.
