Mukesh Kumar prepares for County Championship stint with Nottinghamshire
India pacer Mukesh Kumar has joined Nottinghamshire for the final two matches of the County Championship season. This will be Mukesh's first opportunity to play in England's domestic first-class competition. He will link up with Nottinghamshire ahead of their clash against Sussex in Hove, beginning on Tuesday, September 15. Following which the team will return home to face Yorkshire in their next fixture, starting on September 24.
Mukesh remains in supreme form after recently featuring for the East Zone in the Duleep Trophy. He played a big role in the final, claiming three wickets for 62 runs and helping the team secure the title.
“I am really pleased to sign for Nottinghamshire at an important time in the season. I can’t wait to arrive in England and test myself in county cricket,” Mukesh said in a statement by the club.
“I want to contribute as much as I can while I am here to help Nottinghamshire to success, and I am looking forward to working with the coaches and my new teammates. Coming to England is always a good challenge, and I am excited by the chance to play for a new team in new conditions,” he said.
Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores lauded Mukesh Kumar, highlighting his qualities as a bowler.
“Mukesh's quality as a bowler is not in question, knowing how hard it is to compete to pay in the Indian team. It's fantastic for us to get a player who’s match-ready and in full competitive mode ahead of two big games for the club.”
