WPL 2027 to begin on January 14
The fifth season of the Women’s Premier League is set to begin on January 14, 2027, with the tournament scheduled to run until February 7. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also confirmed the dates for player retention and the upcoming auction. The five franchises will have until September 28 to finalise their retained players.
And the player auction will take place on October 28 in Kochi, as teams look to make the final adjustments to their squads ahead of the new campaign.
Each franchise is permitted to have a maximum of 18 players in their squads, including up to six overseas players. Unlike the previous player-acquisition process, the upcoming event will be a mini-auction. Royal Challengers Bengaluru will head into the 2027 season as the defending champions. The franchise also lifted the trophy back in 2024. The Mumbai Indians had won the inaugural WPL title under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur.
