Abhishek Sharma reveals Yuvraj Singh’s message following his devastating century against Afghanistan
India’s hard-hitting batter Abhishek Sharma once again demonstrated his batting pyrotechnics during India’s third and final T20I against Afghanistan on Sunday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, blazing a dazzling 30-ball century to lift India to a 127-run win. The powerful knock helped him become the only Indian batter to slam the fastest T20I, breaking the previous record held by Rohit Sharma.
After unleashing his brutal assault, Abhishek revealed that he had received a message from his mentor, Yuvraj Singh, ahead of the third match, asking him to take his time and not rush into playing shots if the ball is not in his arch.
“And in the last match, I only got a text from him that I shouldn’t be forcing all the balls. Specifically in these conditions, if I just take one or two singles in between, it’s not, you know, in my slot. I can take a single as well,” Abhishek told the broadcasters.
“But obviously, sir always wants me to play long, and I always have it in my mind that if I give the team such a start, obviously, when we are on the winning side, that is always in my mind,” he added.
In the third match, India, after being put to bat, received a splendid start from Abhishek Sharma, who tore into Afghanistan’s bowling attack with his trademark form, blasting 11 sixes and nine boundaries during his whirlwind knock to power India to 221/7 in 20 overs.
Meanwhile, chasing the target, Afghanistan were bowled out for 94, with Nitish Reddy and Ravi Bishnoi taking three wickets each. Personally as well, it was a fruitful series for him, accumulating 229 runs throughout the series. Across the three matches, he came up with 82, 39 and 108 runs, respectively.
