Mumbai Indians appoint Luke Williams as head coach ahead of WPL 2027
Mumbai Indians have named Luke Williams as their head coach ahead of the Women's Premier League 2027, taking over the reins from Lisa Keightley, who has decided to move on from her role. Williams carries a tremendous amount of experience, having guided Adelaide Strikers to their back-to-back Women’s Big Bash League titles in 2022 and 2023, respectively. He was also at the helm during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s maiden WPL title win in 2024.
"I'm really excited to be joining Mumbai Indians, a respected and successful organisation, and working with this talented group of players and support staff. We have a great opportunity to build something together, play an exciting brand of cricket and compete for success," Williams said in a statement released by MI.
Williams also served as the Southern Brave’s assistant coach in the Women's Hundred during their successful 2023 campaign. He has also worked with the England women's team as an assistant coach. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians finished fourth in the points table at WPL 2026, winning three of the eight matches. However, they have two WPL titles under their belt, which they won in 2023 and 2025.
“Luke is a proven winner and brings with him rich experience, a deep understanding of the women’s game, and a strong commitment to developing players,” Mumbai Indians owner Nita Ambani said.
“Our girls have created a proud legacy in the WPL, and I am confident that, with Luke’s guidance and Harman’s leadership, they will continue to grow, achieve greater success, and inspire young girls everywhere to dream big.”
