Indian captain Shreyas Iyer showed his batting brilliance in Lucknow on Tuesday, smashing an unbeaten century to guide India to a wonderful eight-wicket victory over the West Indies in the opening T20I. Chasing a target of 172, India did not have a powerful start, with openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson departing early.

However, the Iyer took charge of the chase with an aggressive innings, slamming 10 boundaries and six sixes. He remained unbeaten on 102, taking India over the line in 14.4 overs. Ishan Kishan played an important role, finishing unbeaten on 37.

Earlier, West Indies, asked to bat, had managed to post 171 before being bowled out in 19.1 overs. Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford were the main contributors with the bat, both scoring 52 and 56, respectively. However, the West Indies struggled to build enough partnerships, with other batters getting out cheaply. The victory now gives India a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
