India’s explosive opener Abhishek Sharma once again delivered an impressive performance against West Indies, smashing 69 runs off just 30 balls in last night’s match. After India lost the early wickets of Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan, Abhishek took responsibility and kept the scoring rate high with his aggressive batting. However, what made his innings particularly interesting was his approach against the West Indies bowlers. Abhishek deliberately looked to score through the point and cover regions, showing that his batting was not just about power-hitting but also about reading the opposition’s plans and finding the right opportunities.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Abhishek explained how he approached the challenge and why he focused on playing according to the situation. When asked whether targeting the cover and point regions was a deliberate strategy, Abhishek said, “I wouldn't say it was deliberate, but I would say that it was there in my mind that they had a plan against me.”

He further explained that facing an off-spinner in the first over required a different approach. Acknowledging the bowler’s performance throughout the series, he said, “So, it was just a battle between him and me. And as I said in the post-innings interview as well, so I gave him respect in the first over because I think he's bowling really well in this series.”

Abhishek added that his approach worked well because he focused on getting a few runs during the powerplay while finding ways to counter the opposition’s strategy.

“Obviously, they had a plan for me, and I had to, you know, play better than that. That's it,” he said. Interestingly, West Indies have hit more sixes than India in the series so far. India have hit approximately 28 sixes, while West Indies have managed 42. Despite losing two early wickets, India found momentum through Abhishek’s fearless yet thoughtful batting. As India continue their campaign against West Indies, Abhishek’s ability to combine aggression with tactical awareness could prove crucial.
