Power-hitter Abhishek Sharma creates history with record-breaking sixes

Indian power-hitter Abhishek Sharma has created history, registering a monumental milestone in his extraordinary career. He accomplished the latest achievement during the fourth T20I against West Indies in Hyderabad on Wednesday, where the explosive batter became the leading six-hitter in a calendar year in the history of the format.
He hit his 69th six of 2026, surpassing the previous record of 68 sixes held by former India captain Suryakumar Yadav. Suryakumar set this record in 2022, but Abhishek’s extraordinary performance in the past year has taken him past Suryakumar Yadav.
This year has been highly productive for Abhishek, who, across 33 matches, has accumulated 950 runs at an average above 29 and a strike rate of more than 206. His tally includes one century and eight half-centuries, with his highest score being 108. He also carries the record of smashing the fastest T20I century by a batter representing a Test-playing nation. Meanwhile, the ongoing five-match series between India and West Indies is levelled 2-2 after West Indies sealed a crushing 24-run win in the fourth T20I to make their stunning comeback. The fifth and final match is scheduled to be played on Saturday in Bengaluru.
