Indian batter Punam Raut has announced her retirement from international cricket, bringing the curtain down on a tremendous career that lasted for almost 17 years. She represented India between 2009 and 2021 and made noteworthy contributions across all three formats of the game. Raut featured in four Tests, 73 ODIs and 35 T20Is, scoring 264, 2299 and 719 runs, respectively.

"After much thought and reflection, I have decided to retire from international cricket in all formats of the game," Raut wrote in a post on Instagram.

One of the most memorable times of her career came during the 2017 Women's ODI World Cup, where she played a key role in India's campaign. She was highly impressive during the league stage match against Australia, firing a crucial century. And later in the final against England at Lord's, she blasted a superb knock of 86 as an opener. However, India lost that match by 9 runs.

"Representing India has been the greatest honour of my life. Cricket has been more than just a sport - it has shaped my character, taught me resilience, and given me memories that I will cherish forever. Every time I wore the India jersey, I did so with immense pride and gratitude. Wearing the India jersey was a dream that became a reality, and I will always be grateful for the trust and support I received."

"As I close this chapter of my international cricket career, my heart is filled with gratitude for everyone who believed in me, stood by me, and became a part of my journey. Cricket gave me more than a career. It gave me a purpose, an identity, and a family."

"The player in me may step aside, but the love for this game will never retire. My next innings is about giving back to the game that gave me everything,” she stated.
