The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a major decision, added veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar to the India squad ahead of the fifth and final T20I match against West Indies. The latest development emerges after India suffered an injury scare, with pacer Arshdeep Singh taking a blow to his left shoulder while batting in the fourth T20I in Hyderabad on Wednesday. Meanwhile, a decision on Arshdeep’s availability for the fifth match will be taken ahead of the match, as his participation will be subject to his recovery.

“Bhuvneshwar Kumar was added to the squad after Arshdeep Singh sustained a blow to his bowling shoulder during the fourth T20I of the series against West Indies on Wednesday in Hyderabad,” the BCCI said in a release.

"A decision on his participation for the final T20I will be taken prior to the game based on his recovery,” it added.

Notably, Bhuvneshwar was recently included in India’s T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series against New Zealand, making his comeback to the side after almost four years. Despite being on the sidelines, he was intensely involved in the IPL, playing a key role in RCB’s back-to-back title wins.

Updated India T20I squad: Shreyas Iyer (c), Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ishan Kishan (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Tilak Varma (vc), Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav, Mayank Yadav, Naman Dhir, Bhuvneshwar Kumar
