Women's Asian Games 2026, semi final: Familiar opponents Sri Lanka and Pakistan meet in must-win encounter

Sri Lanka Women and Pakistan Women are ready to take on each other in the Asian Games semi-final on Sunday at Korogi Sports Park. Both are familiar opponents, having recently faced each other at the Asia Cup 2026. Once again it is a must-win game for both sides in order to book a place in the final. Interestingly, these two teams met in the semifinal of the Asia Cup a few days ago, where Sri Lanka edged out Pakistan.

However, this encounter gives Pakistan an opportunity to turn the tables after getting knocked out of the Asia Cup. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will be looking to maintain consistency and continue their winning momentum against Pakistan. Heading into this match, Pakistan have a lot of issues to address, with their batting being a major concern.

During the Asia Cup match against Thailand, Pakistan struggled badly just to chase a target of 92 from 11 overs. But here, Pakistan will need contributions from everyone to give a tough fight to Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka come into the semifinal with their own unfinished business because at the Asian Games they have come so close to the top prize, but they have been unable to win it.

They won a bronze medal in 2014 and silver in 2023, but gold has eluded them, which they would hope to grab this time. Moreover, their recent defeat to India in the Asia Cup final will also make this match a big showdown.
