New Zealand have made major changes to their women’s coaching staff ahead of their upcoming white-ball assignment in Australia, roping in former cricketers Martin Guptill and Andre Adams. The duo will work alongside interim head coach Dean Brownlie during New Zealand’s three-match T20I series against Australia, which gets underway in Sydney on October 18.

These appointments come amid the departure of Ben Sawyer, who had been in charge of the team for several years. Under Sawyer’s tenure, New Zealand won their first-ever ICC Women’s T20 World Cup crown in Dubai in 2024. Notably, the changes also follow the absence of regular assistant coach Craig McMillan, who is continuing his recovery after undergoing back surgery. Guptill, meanwhile, will work with the batting and fielding groups during the Australian series.

"I'm really excited to be joining the White Ferns and looking forward to working with such a talented group of players. The White Ferns have achieved a huge amount in recent years and there's a lot of exciting talent coming through," Guptill said.

"If I can help add a few extra tools to the players' games and support their growth, then that's something I'll be really proud of."

Andre Adams was also excited to join the New Zealand women’s team.

"It's great to be back involved with the White Ferns. Having worked with the team before, I know what a special environment it is, and how much pride the players and staff take in representing New Zealand," Adams said.

"Opportunities like this are exciting, because you get to test yourselves against one of the best teams in the world and we're looking forward to taking that head on together."
