Former India captains Sourav Ganguly and Ajinkya Rahane joined cricket legends Brian Lara, Joe Root and Harry Brook for a special tennis-ball cricket match on The Mall outside Buckingham Palace in London. Invited by Prince William, Rahane participated in the event to promote environmental sustainability ahead of the Earthshot Prize ceremony in Mumbai on November 17, 2026.

Sharing his experience on LinkedIn, Rahane described the occasion as unforgettable. "Cricket has taken me to some remarkable venues across the world, but playing tennis-ball cricket right on The Mall in London with Buckingham Palace in the backdrop is an experience that will stay with me for a long time," he said. Rahane also highlighted the importance of protecting the planet, saying environmental sustainability requires the same values that cricket teaches: discipline, teamwork and commitment.

Launched by Prince William in 2020, the Earthshot Prize supports innovative solutions to environmental challenges. Its sixth edition will be held in Mumbai, marking the initiative's debut in India.
