The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed former India spinner Pragyan Ojha as the new chairman of the men's selection committee. Ojha replaces Ajit Agarkar, who recently stepped down from the role. Ojha had been working as an interim selector before receiving the responsibility on a full-time basis. The appointment was confirmed on Monday following a selection process conducted by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), which includes Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape.

The BCCI has also appointed former India spinner Ramesh Powar as a member of the five-member selection panel. Ojha will lead the committee based on seniority, which is determined by the number of Test matches played. The panel includes Shiv Sundar Das, RP Singh, Ajay Ratra and Ramesh Powar, who will work together to select India's men's cricket teams. The vacancy in the selection committee arose after Agarkar's departure. During his time as chairman, which began in July 2023, the committee oversaw a successful period for Indian cricket, with the country winning several major international titles.

"The BCCI places on record its appreciation for Mr Ajit Agarkar for his commitment, conviction and contribution during his tenure as Chairman of the Men's Selection Committee," Saikia said. He further highlighted the achievements of Indian cricket during Agarkar's tenure, adding, "Since his appointment in July 2023, Agarkar led the committee through a significant period for Indian cricket, with India winning three ICC trophies, two Asia Cup titles and back-to-back Asian Games gold medals."
