“I know I’m not 25”: Scott Boland after fiery spell against South Africa

Australia pacer Scott Boland ran through South Africa on day two of the ongoing second Test, taking brilliant advantage of the opportunity that landed his way. Generally Nathan Lyon remains a key the team, but favourable conditions in Gqeberha prompted Australia to bring in an additional pacer, Scott Boland, who learnt about his involvement in the second Test just on Sunday. At the end of day 2, Boland had claimed four of South Africa's five wickets, putting the Proteas in a precarious position. Following his impressive showing, Boland expressed his desperation to continue playing and making heavy contributions to the side.

“I can’t speak for Nathan, but I want to play every game I can,” Boland said at the press conference after day two.

“I know I’m not 25, so I know time is probably running out a little bit. But we’ve got so many Tests over the next 12 months that I knew I was going to play a part somewhere just be ready for whenever I’m needed.

“I want to play every Test, but I know that’s not realistic, so I want to be ready for when I get my opportunity and then try to impact the game straight away.”

Boland, who is the oldest Australian pacer in the lineup, still feels he can play as long as he wants. Notably, he opened his spell on the first day with a maiden over, putting the South African batters under pressure without conceding a run.

“I think that’s the beauty of only playing one format. I know where my games are going to be; I can sort of build up towards that. I don’t have to worry too much about bowling yorkers or slower balls, which put your action a bit out of whack,” Boland said.

“It keeps my planning really easy. It gives me a clear plan and I can work my build-up into the first Test or second Test, whenever it is.”

“My body is feeling really good. I know I’m 37 and the oldest fast bowler to play for a while, but still feel like I’m going really well, body is in a good spot so I feel like I can do it for as long as I can, I guess,” he said.
