“Just wanted to enjoy myself”: Harmanpreet Kaur after blasting 91* against Zimbabwe

Former Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur has expressed that she wants to play with greater freedom and make every opportunity count. Harmanpreet opened up about her mindset after slamming a stunning 91 off 41 in the third T20I against Zimbabwe in Raipur, helping India clinch a 92-run victory.

Harman’s explosive knock came after she stepped down from India’s captaincy across all formats earlier this month, with Smriti Mandhana taking over the leadership. Now, free from leadership responsibilities, Harmanpreet is looking to concentrate on her batting to rediscover her mojo.

This innings was very noteworthy for her, as she had gone eight innings without registering a half-century. However, she overcame the lean patch in a spectacular fishing, blasting a commanding knock that was rife with a series of impressive strokes.

"It feels great. Just wanted to enjoy myself, and great that I got some time in the middle and really enjoyed myself on the field,” Kaur said at the post-match presentation.

Harman also highlighted her practice in the nets after the Asian Games that played a key role in her performance. Kudzai Chigora bore the brunt of Harmanpreet’s change in approach as she gathered 20 runs from the bowler’s over, hitting two boundaries and as many sixes. Overall, her innings was laced with 10 fours and five sixes.

"After the Asian Games, I got some time in the nets. I really want to thank Himanshu bhaiya, who's been working really hard on me, and today’s batting was all him,” Harman said.

Harmanpreet also thanked WV Raman, who was speaking to her as an interviewer. Notably, WV Raman served as the head coach of the Indian women team for about three years from December 20, 2018, to May 13, 2021.

"I think should give credit to you also (to WV Raman). The moment we came, you stepped in and you said, ‘Now you do what you want to do,' and that's what I want to do, and really want to enjoy myself. Thanks for those words," she said.
