IPL 2027 Auction date announced: Goa to host mini-auction on December 16

The IPL 2027 mini-auction will take place on December 16 in Goa, with all 10 franchises preparing to strengthen their squads ahead of the upcoming season. The day-long auction will coincide with the second ODI between India and Sri Lanka in Bengaluru. The auction date comes nearly a month after the retention deadline, which the Indian Premier League (IPL) has set for November 15. Following the deadline, franchises will receive the list of registered players to shortlist before the final auction list and bidding order are released in the week leading up to the event.

The IPL trade window has witnessed only two deals since the conclusion of the 2026 season. In June, Lucknow Super Giants traded captain Rishabh Pant to Delhi Capitals in exchange for wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav. More recently, Delhi Capitals sent fast bowler T Natarajan to Sunrisers Hyderabad in return for uncapped leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari. Under IPL rules, the trade window opens a month after the season ends, remains active until a week before the auction and reopens until a month before the next season begins.

The IPL has yet to finalise the dates for the 2027 season. While the previously announced schedule window for the 2025-2027 cycle runs from March 14 to May 30, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia indicated in September that the tournament could begin towards the end of March. The December auction will also be the final mini-auction in the current cycle, with a mega auction scheduled ahead of the 2028 season. The next mega auction is expected to precede a new media rights cycle, although the BCCI has not yet issued the tender. The IPL's current media rights deal was sold in 2022 for ₹48,390.5 crore, underlining the tournament's position among the world's most valuable sporting properties.
