Pakistan have been fined five per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate during the final of the ODI tri-series against Sri Lanka at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday, October 31. According to the ICC, Pakistan were found to be one over short after time allowances were taken into consideration. Match referee Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel imposed the sanction under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offences.

Under the rules, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their team fails to bowl within the allotted time. On-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Wayne Knights, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Rashid Riaz levelled the charge.Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi pleaded guilty and accepted the proposed sanction, avoiding the need for a formal hearing.

Despite the penalty, Pakistan had a memorable night as they defeated Sri Lanka by three wickets to lift the ODI tri-series trophy. Chasing a challenging target of 326 runs, Pakistan reached 331/7 in 48.3 overs, completing the joint-highest successful chase in an ODI final.

Fakhar Zaman was the star of the chase, smashing 127 runs off just 99 deliveries, including 11 fours and six sixes. He received excellent support from Saad Baig, who scored 74 runs, while Arafat Minhas played a crucial unbeaten 61-run knock. Earlier, Sri Lanka posted 325/8 in their 50 overs, thanks to Kamindu Mendis' brilliant 131 off 128 balls and Pavan Rathnayake's 77-run contribution.

The victory marked Pakistan's first ODI tri-series title since 2008 and provided a major boost to the team ahead of their preparations for the 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.
