Afghanistan rise to sixth in ICC ODI rankings, surpass Sri Lanka

Afghanistan have achieved a major milestone in international cricket by climbing to sixth position in the ICC Men's ODI team rankings, overtaking Sri Lanka to secure their highest-ever ranking in the format.
The rise comes after an impressive run of performances in the 50-over format. Afghanistan first registered a dominant 4-0 victory over Ireland in an away series in August before continuing their winning momentum in the recently concluded UAE tri-series featuring Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.
Afghanistan remained unbeaten in the tri-series and defeated Zimbabwe by seven wickets in the final in Sharjah to lift the title. Captain Rashid Khan played a crucial role in the team's success, claiming 11 wickets to win the Player of the Series award.
During the tournament, Afghanistan also showcased their bowling strength against Bangladesh, dismissing them for just 160 runs before comfortably chasing down the target in 35.3 overs.
Afghanistan have now won 96 of their 191 ODI matches, maintaining an impressive win-loss ratio of 1.09. Their consistent performances have helped them move past several established cricketing nations, including Bangladesh, England, West Indies and now Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, India continue to lead the ICC Men's ODI team rankings, with New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan and Australia occupying the next four positions.
In the T20I rankings, England are currently at the top, followed by India in second place and Australia in third.
Afghanistan's historic rise to sixth position reflects their growing consistency and competitiveness in ODI cricket. With strong performances from both their batting and bowling departments, the team continues to strengthen its position among the leading sides in international cricket.
