'He can make a difference': Sunil Gavaskar on Kuldeep Yadav ahead of Asia Cup final

India’s in-form wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav has made a big impact in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 with his unplayable deliveries. It’s been magnificent outing for Kuldeep and a big encouragement to team India. India are slated to come across Sri Lanka in the final of the Asia Cup on Sunday at R. Premadasa Stadium. The role of Kuldeep Yadav through his bowling attack will be incredible crucial for India. Kuldeep had returned with five-wicket haul in the match against Pakistan while against Sri Lanka he took four wickets. As India head into the final of the match, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar feels that Kuldeep Yadav could be making a big difference in the game.

“Kuldeep has shown that he can make a difference. Wrist spin, whether it is right-arm of left-arm, can get you wickets. And wickets are the best dot balls in limited overs cricket. Also, the fact that he is bowling a little flatter, not giving that much air, getting the ball to spin, makes him difficult to play,” Gavaskar said on India Today.

Sri Lanka, however, would be missing the service of their experienced spinner Maheesh Theekshana but they have another good spinner to give harrowing time to Indian batters as he did in the last match. Dunith Wellalage has been perfectly superb for Sri Lanka and has been quite threatening with his bowling attack. Gavaskar, however, had some advice to give to Indian batters while dealing with Wellalage.

“I think they would try and get to the pitch of the ball as quickly as possible. It’s not an easy wicket to always toss the ball up. But every time he gives the ball a little bit of air, drive him with quick footwork. Unless the pitch is flat and there is not much turn, don’t look to loft him. Make him think,” added Gavaskar.
