Neil Wagner retires from International cricket

New Zealand fast bowler Neil Wagner has brought down the curtains on his beautiful Test career after he announced his retirement from international cricket. Wagner's difficult decision came after he was not incorporated into New Zealand’s squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Australia beginning February 29. Wagner had a chat with New Zealand head coach Gary Stead where he was informed that he wouldn’t be in the XI to face Australia, following which he made the difficult choice to retire.
"It's been an emotional week. It's not easy to step away from something you've given so much to and got so much out of, but it's now time for others to step up and take this team forward. I've enjoyed every single moment of playing Test cricket for the Black Caps and am proud of everything we've been able to achieve as a team. The friendships and bonds built over my career are what I'll cherish the most and I want to thank everyone who's played a part in where I am today," said Wagner in the statement.
Neil Wagner made his Test debut against the West Indies in 2012, having played 64 Tests for New Zealand. During his career, he took 260 wickets, being the fifth-highest wicket-taker. Wagner’s role for New Zealand has been incredibly instrumental not only with ball but in the batting department as well. Meanwhile, Wagner will continue to play first-class cricket.
