T20I WC, 2024: Andries Gous, Aaron Jones guide USA to victory in World Cup opener

In an exciting opener of the T20I World Cup 2024 on Sunday at Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas, oldest rivals in international cricket USA and Canada locked horns in which USA made it to the top with a seven-wicket win on the back of a spellbinding innings from Aaron Jones, who starred with his unbeaten 94-run knock to help the side kick off their campaign with a victory. 

Chasing a total of 194, USA batters Andries Gous (65) and Aaron Jones (94*) made the light work of the chase, stitching a 131-run partnership to lead the side to the victory with 14 balls to spare. Jones remained the standout performer, clearing the ropes 14 times, involving 10 sixes and 4 boundaries. This victory for USA has set the tone for a marvellous campaign ahead in the tournament. 

Canada, asked to bat, started off in a positive mode with openers Aaron Johnson and Navneet Dhaliwal scoring (23) and (61) respectively. Navneet’s half-century was the first for Canada in a T20 World Cup. Nicholas Kirton (51) slammed his half-century down the order to power Canada to a relatively fighting score of 194/5 in (20) overs.
