Shahid Afridi on India’s stance on Champions Trophy

India once again are reportedly unwilling to travel to Pakistan to play the 2025 Champions Trophy which will be hosted by Pakistan. Same circumstances, which occurred in 2023, are prevailing once again with India outrightly refusing to travel to Pakistan citing securing concerns.
Last year, the 2023 Asia Cup, hosted by Pakistan, was played in hybrid model, with India playing their matches in Sri Lanka and deciding against travelling to Pakistan. At that time as well, India didn’t travel to Pakistan citing security concerns. However, there has been no official confirmation yet but India have time and again expressed their unwillingness to travel to Pakistan.
There have been several opinions from former cricketers surrounding India’s reluctance regarding their travel to Pakistan. Giving his take on India’s stance, former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi said that India are using security as an excuse.
“We have gone to India so many times in difficult situations. We got threats and still we went to India. We will get to know their intention. We have always supported India. We got threats but the Pakistan Cricket Board and government always took the initiative. If they want to come, they will come. If they do not want to come, they will use security as an excuse,” Afridi told local media.
