WI vs BAN 2nd Test, Day 4: Taijul Islam powers Bangladesh to historic win
In a massive achievement, Bangladesh registered their first-ever Test win in West Indies since 2009, defeating the hosts by (101) runs in the second Test at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica. The victory not only secured Bangladesh first win in the Caribbean in over a decade but also helped them tie the two-match series 1-1, as the West Indies failed to chase down a target of (287).
Earlier, choosing to bat after winning the toss, visitors were in early trouble as they struggled to build partnerships, finally being bowled out for a modest total of (164). Shadman Islam was the highest run-getter, belting (64 off 137). Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph led West Indies' bowling attack, claiming four and three wickets respectively to restrict Bangladesh’s innings.
In reply, West Indies' batting lineup also found itself in a challenging situation, despite the presence of some experienced players. West Indies were bundled out for a mere (146) runs, handing Bangladesh a crucial lead. West Indies’ middle-order couldn’t live up to the expectations, with players like Alice Athanaze and Mikyle Louis getting out cheaply. The visitors' bowling was led by Nahid Rana, who claimed five wickets to shatter West Indies.
With the lead in hand, Bangladesh took to the crease again in their second innings, with Shadman Islam and Jaker Ali firing (46) and (91) respectively to power the side to (268). Defending the total, Bangladesh’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance to dismantle the West Indies’ batting. Despite a spirited 55-run score from Kavem Hodge, West Indies were unable to go past the target. Meanwhile, Bangladesh bowler Taijul Islam returned with five wickets to power the side to the historic victory.
