Dimuth Karunaratne to bow out of Test cricket after 100th appearance

Sri Lankan batter Dimuth Karunaratne, according to reports, is set to retire from Test cricket after playing his 100th Test match during Sri Lanka’s second Test against Australia scheduled to begin on February 6 at Galle International Stadium. Karunaratne, who made his Test debut in 2012, has piled up 7,172 runs in the format at an average of 39.4. He has also scored 16 centuries and 39 half-centuries in the format.
His highest score in Test is 244, which came against Bangladesh in 2021. As he gears up for a massive milestone, Dimuth Karunaratne will become the seventh Sri Lankan batter to reach 100th Test milestone.
He will join Sanath Jayasuriya (110), Muttiah Muralidaran (132), Chaminda Vaas (111), Kumar Sangakkara(134), Mahela Jayawardene (149), and Angelo Mathews (117), who all have played more than hundred Tests for Sri Lanka. In the first Test against Australia, he scored (7) and (0) respectively. He also led Sri Lanka in 30 Tests, registering 12 victories and 12 defeats. Six games were drawn.
