Ryan ten Doeschate steps down as India's assistant coach
India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has stepped down, bringing an end to a two-year tenure with the men’s team. According to reports, ten Doeschate informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of his decision while the team was in England for the T20I and ODI series in which India endured disappointing results in both the T20I and ODI series. Even after mixed results, ten Doeschate also enjoyed success during his time with Team India, following India's title win at Champions Trophy in 2025 and the Asia Cup later that year.
India also successfully defended T20 World Cup title in 2026. However, India's Test side went through challenges, suffering a series defeat in Australia during the 2025–26 Border-Gavaskar Trophy before losing home series against New Zealand and South Africa. As per Cricinfo, he is now expected to reunite with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), where he is likely to take up a coaching position ahead of the next Indian Premier League season.
Ten Doeschate joined the Indian coaching staff in 2024 after Gautam Gambhir took over from Rahul Dravid as head coach following India's victorious T20 World Cup campaign. During his time with team India, he performed several roles, assisting the side with batting preparations while also playing an important role in fielding drills and team planning.
Ten Doeschate's move back to KKR will also reunite him with Abhishek Nayar, with the duo having worked within India's coaching setup in the past. Notably, ten Doeschate shares a long association with KKR, as he played a key role in helping the franchise secure IPL titles in 2012 and 2014. He later returned to the team as fielding coach in 2022 and remained part of the support staff until 2024.
