In a huge shock ahead of the Champions Trophy, Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has announced his retirement from ODIs with immediate effect. He has also ruled himself out of the Champions Trophy. Having played 71 ODIs for Australia, Stoinis has scored 1495 runs at an average of 26.69. He has also taken 48 wickets in ODIs. However, Stoinis will continue to remain available for the team in the T20I format.

"Playing ODI cricket for Australia has been an incredible journey, and I'm grateful for every moment I've had in the green and gold. Representing my country at the highest level is something I'll always cherish," Stoinis said.

"This wasn't an easy decision, but I believe it's the right time for me to step away from ODIs and fully focus on the next chapter of my career. I've got a fantastic relationship with Ron [Andrew McDonald] and I've hugely appreciated his support. I'll be cheering the boys on in Pakistan."

Stoinis had recently been named in Australia’s preliminary 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy, which is set to be played in Pakistan and UAE from February 19. Now, with Stoinis having called time on his ODI career, some other player will be included in Australia’s squad for Champions Trophy to replace him.
