Indian star Virat Kohli has made a bold statement regarding the future of Indian cricket. After contributing heavily to India’s thrilling victory in the ICC Champions Trophy, Kohli expressed confidence that the current Indian squad is well-equipped to compete at the highest level for the next eight years.

"It's been amazing. We wanted to bounce back after a tough Australian tour, and wanted to win a big tournament, and we ended up doing that. So it's an amazing feeling,” Kohli told the broadcaster.

"When you leave, you want to leave the team in a better place. That’s our effort. We have the squad that is ready to take on the world for the next eight to 10 years and these guys definitely have the talent to do so," Kohli said.

"They have stepped up already with so many impactful innings that this guy (Gill) has played. Shreyas beautiful, KL (Rahul) has been finishing games and Hardik (Pandya) is a match-winner so we are in good hands."

India, on Sunday, edged out New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final to claim a hard-earned four-wicket victory in Dubai. KL Rahul, in the end, remained composed with his (34*) to steer the side to title victory. The team, chasing a target of 252, had a blistering start with openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill forging a 105-run partnership. Later, Shreyas Iyer (48) and Axar Patel (29) played gritty knocks to keep India on track. And, an intense cameo from Hardik Pandya, who smacked 18 off 18, including one six and one boundary, helped the side a lot.
