Kolkata Knight Riders squeezed out an 80-run win over star-studded Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday at Eden Gardens to return to winning ways. The win was made possible by an explosive middle-order batting display, a clinical bowling performance, and a determined team effort.

After being sent in, KKR faced early setbacks when their openers struggled to make an impact. Their openers, Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine found it incredibly tough to get going, with SRH's Pat Cummins and Mohammed Shami dismissing them respectively.

The quick loss of wickets left the side reeling in a precarious position. However, their middle-order batters stepped up to the challenge. Venkatesh Iyer (60) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi  (50) were instrumental in lifting the total to a commanding 200/6 in their 20 overs. While skipper Ajinkya Rahane (38) and Rinku Singh (32) also made invaluable contributions to take the side to a challenging total.

Chasing 201, SRH had a nightmare start as they lost their top-order batters in quick succession. In just the third over of the innings, SRH were reduced to a perilous 9/3, with their top three players, Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan back in the pavilion. This early collapse left the team in disarray, with the required run rate climbing steeply.

The middle-order batters in the form of Heinrich Klassen (33) and Kamindu Mendis (27) tried to rebuild the innings, but the damage had already been done. No batsman was able to form a meaningful partnership as the pressure of the chase mounted. SRH were bowled out for 120 in 16.4 overs.
