Nitish Rana breaks silence on not batting in Super Over

In a huge turn of events, Delhi Capitals clinched a thrilling super over victory against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday at Arun Jaitley Stadium, with Mitchell Starc sending down a strangling spell. The match went into the super over after Rajasthan Royals recorded 188/4 in 20 overs in response to Delhi Capitals’ 188/5. 

For the super over, Rajasthan sent Riyan Parag, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shimron Hetmyer, overlooking Nitish Rana, who was in tremendous form, hitting 51 off just 28. His score was the reason that RR were able to muster 188 in their chase. In the super over, RR batters put up 11 runs that Delhi Capitals easily chased with two balls left. 

“One person never takes such calls. Management and support staff is there to discuss such things. If the result was in our favour then your question would have been different. Cricket is a result-oriented sport. If Sandeep Sharma had bowled well in the Super Over, which he has done in the past. In this situation, he was most likely the best bowler for us,” Rana said during the post-match presentation. 

"I think we were one big shot less. We were targeting 15 runs in the Super Over because we know if you have 15 runs and you get one wicket, there's a chance because then the batting team is under pressure,” he said.

With the latest defeat, Rajasthan have now lost five matches out of seven as they sit in eighth place in the points table. Their next clash is against Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.
