"Feeling a bit of pressure": Former Indian cricketer on Sai Sudharsan's underwhelming innings

Indian batting prodigy Sai Sudharsan had a tough outing in the first innings of India's ongoing first Test match against West Indies in Ahmedabad, managing just 7 runs off 19 balls. The left-handed batter, making one of his early appearances in the longest format, looked unsettled at the crease, struggling for timing and rhythm against West Indies' disciplined bowling attack. Sudharsan, who has earned a lot of praise for his performances in domestic cricket and the IPL, failed to convert his promising start into a meaningful contribution.
Former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel speaking on Sudharsan's performance, felt that he was under pressure to score big runs.
“Sai Sudharsan looked a bit tentative today. He usually uses his feet really well, especially against left-arm spinners. With left-handed batters, we know that as soon as a left-arm spinner comes in, we try to rotate the strike and wait for the right ball to go after. But I thought Sai Sudharsan was probably feeling a bit of pressure to score big runs and secure that number three position. He just needs to stay calm,” said Patel on Star Sports.
Meanwhile, Sudharsan hasn’t enjoyed a great start to his Test career, having scored 147 runs from seven innings at an average of 21. He made his Test debut in England earlier this year, where he registered scores of 0, 30, 61, 0, 38 and 11 across three matches. Talking about the match, India are in full control of the proceedings after bowling West Indies out for 162 in their first innings, with Mohammed Siraj (4/40) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/42) returning with staggering performances.
