Shubman Gill has pretty well strengthened his case for recall to the Indian T20I side following a blistering Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Despite being absent from India's recent T20I plans, Gujarat Titans skipper has made it clear that he has not closed the door on a return to the national T20 side. Speaking ahead of the IPL 2026 final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gill emphasised that his focus remains on continuous improvement rather than pondering on selection setbacks. Gill believes that there is still plenty of room to evolve as a T20 batter.

"I will be happy to play if I get picked for the T20 team. Honestly, I want to keep working on my game. Doesn't matter what format it is. I want to keep getting better as a T20 batter, ODI batsman and Test batsman. Cricket is such a game you can never really get perfect, but obviously you can strive for it, and that's what I try to."

Gill, who leads India in Test and ODIs, last appeared for the side in T20Is during the home series against South Africa in December 2025, where he struggled to perform. And that difficult run of form in the format led to his exclusion from India's squad for the T20 World Cup.

However, Gill has led one of the most impressive batting campaigns of IPL 2026, scoring 722 runs at a strike rate of 163.72. He also remains the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament. Meanwhile, Gill is preparing to lead GT in the IPL 2026 final to be played against RCB on Sunday in Ahmedabad. His team made it to the final after downing Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2.
