RCB appoint Anya Shrubsole as bowling coach ahead of WPL 2026

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have reportedly appointed former England pace-ace Anya Shrubsole as the new bowling coach ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 season. The latest development comes amid the elevation of long-time assistant and former Tamil Nadu spinner Malolan Rangarajan to the role of head coach. Malolan Rangarajan has been promoted to the top role due to Luke Williams's commitments with Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League (BBL).

The timing of the changes is noteworthy. The WPL 2026 has been advanced to begin on 8 January 2026, ending in early February. This shift creates a clash in the calendar for the previous coach Luke Williams. Notably, India would be co-hosting the 2026 Men’s T20I World Cup along with Sri Lanka during February and March, which is why the change in WPL schedule was necessitated.

As for Anya Shrubsole, she retired from international cricket in 2022, having taken over 200 wickets across formats. This will be her maiden stint in the tournament.
