India batter KL Rahul has been named captain for the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa, scheduled to begin on November 30 after the conclusion of the ongoing second and final Test. The leadership responsibility comes Rahul’s way as regular captain Shubman Gill continues to recover from the neck injury he sustained during the first Test in Kolkata earlier this month. The squad also sees the return of Rishabh Pant

The wicketkeeper-batter last featured in the ODI format in August 2024, and he now returns as the second wicketkeeper in the squad. India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been given a much-needed break. Having been part of all four home Tests this season, the T20 Asia Cup, and the ODI series in Australia over the past two months, the management has opted to rest him.

Shreyas Iyer was not picked as he remains unavailable following his recovery from a lacerated spleen. Axar Patel misses out with Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy coming in as the all-rounders.

India squad: KL Rahul (c), Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Tilak Varma, Rishabh Pant, Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Dhruv Jurel.
